Food, Drink, and I guess that covers it
After a brief history tour and finding out that rock music was banned, Sam and I headed for the Rockabilly Bar Moonshine (sadly now closed but Riga has many lively places so keep an eye out walking round).
Another evening, another restaurant; we went to Ala Pagrabs to enjoy some live music with dinner. Full of traditional options, we were stuffed after trying as much as we could in one sitting.
The Armoury Bar caught our attention though more so once we entered. It’s not often you can have a pint at the bar whilst sat next to guns. A chilled atmosphere, friendly staff and a decent selection of beverages, several hours were spent lounging here.
Deciding to push the boat out, a visit to the Sky Line Bar became the order of the day. All I can say is that the local liquor, Riga Black Balsam, is one of my favourite drinks. My favourite cocktail here was the ’26’ consisting of Riga Black Balsam, lime, orange, passion fruit syrup Schweppes Russchian and brown sugar. Glorious views greeted us as we sipped our cocktails all afternoon. Even the view from the toilets deserves a mention.

Talking of boats, if you fancy an alternative dinner setting, why not try a boat tour? With a bar and café, the Vecriga was an alternative way to spend an evening. The sunset was fully appreciated by us whilst swinging in the egg chairs at the rear of the boat – us girls know how to live it up!
Stag or hen parties may want to consider the Party Bikes. Rather you than me, but I can see the novelty factor.
I've barely touched the surface of what Riga offers within this blog, but I trust that the pictures alone will pique your interest. Whether a girls trip, lads holiday or couples getaway, there's something for everyone. The budget doesn’t need to be excessive. Even as a solo traveller this beautiful city makes me feel safe and welcomed with open arms.
Top tip to avoid looking like a typical British tourist; make sure you wear a coat and don’t brave a walking tour in a t-shirt as you will be pointed out as the stereotype! After many a chuckle, I’ve come to the conclusion that Latvia is a place I shall be keeping high on my ‘return-to’ list.
